Photo 1: The reunion of Alan Matthews and Win Percy with the legendary Ford Escort Mexico Mark 1. The car was purchased at auction by Alan Matthews and is an ex works Ford Motor company promotion race car which was used by Hannu Mikkola in the 1973 East African Safari Rally as his race car for the event. Hannu went on to win the event in a works Ford Escort RS1600.

In its' day Ford AVO used this Escort Mexico on a number of events as a race car and backup vehicle and was driven by a number of top rally drivers.

Tony Mason has signed the inside of the boot of the car, stating fond memories of Safari 73 along with Bill Mead who ran AVO and Phil Jones.

To complement this red and black Escort Mexico, back in 1973, when Alan was only twenty years old, he asked Win Percy to supply him with a new Escort Mexico which was also red and black. Alan says it is like going back in time owning this amazing car.
