Rally Race Days

Photo 5: A distraught Alan and Mike's run came to an abrupt end when they experienced a head-on collision at the Bath Festival.  Well as they say, some days don't go as well as others!

Alan Matthews has extensive experience as a driver in both rally and racing in addition to the preparation perspective having run his own cars on both the race track and rally stages. A Ford Escort RS 2000 Mk1 took Alan from road rallying into the forests with a Mk2 version of the popular rally car following in due course. A programme of south west events being interrupted by an occasional foray onto the national scene.

A departure from the Ford marque in the earlier eighties saw the Dorset driver at the wheel of a Talbot Sunbeam Lotus and securing numerous top placings in south west rallies and the ASWMC Stage Rally Championship. A change of scene then saw Alan turn his attentions to circuit racing both driving and preparing a car in the Metro Challenge.

The demands of business commitments brought about a cessation of motor sport for a few years before Alan returned to the motoring fold when he formed Eurotek Racing which he developed into a worldwide ‘name’ for anything relating to Renault Alpine cars and Renault Sport. Further links with the French motor industry were formed when he was appointed the UK importer for the Venturi sports car manufacturer.
